If you’re an aspiring engineering manager worried you’re "not good with people" and always think what can i do to help others. You need to know every leadership skill with people is to learn together, with this right mindset and habits , you will create a good psychological safety to others and to yourselves , with throughout the process you can grow into a confident people leader.

Here are five tactical tips to boost your confidence and effectiveness with your team, drawn from my own journey and lessons.

  1. Embrace the learning mindset - take the courage to admit that you are not good at everything , and looks for helps. It will open up more conversation to your team to share more and learning together

  2. Clear Commnication - Clear communication and expectations go a long way toward building trust with your team. Strong leader make sure everyone can see the outcome of the success , and don't afraid to encourage your team to provide clarity on each works , and always shows clear is kind and benefits to the whole team.

  3. Create Courage to on your comfort zone - Sometimes, when things happened , show your courage to confident rather than say "i'd rather not to have this conversation". This moment matter to the team , so The more you act with courage, the more your confidence will catch up.

  4. Put People before projects - as a leader, sometimes you may focus on the delivery and forgot human element, therefore - ask your team how they doing , listen to their concerns and show empathy before asking the result , it will definitely help building bonding relationship with it.
